The Return Of A National Past Time...

Tonight at approximately 10 PM EST marked the return of a great lost adult cartoon. Futurama is a show the first premiered in 1999 on FOX. The show is set in the year 3000 and the story features Fry, a delivery boy, getting stuck in a cryogenic pod and being frozen until the year 3000. He finds a job at Planet Express, a moving company, and finds a best friend who happens to be a robot and a love interest in a cyclops. The show follows his adventure into the 31st century and the way a person with a below average IQ would live in those days. The characters include Turanga Leela the cyclops, Bender the robot, Professor Farnsworth, Zoidberg a hilarious crab who's a bad doctor, Amy Wong, Hermes, Zapp Branigan, and Nibbler.

The shows history is a bit foggy. It was rudely cancelled by FOX in 2003. Since the show was so beloved with fans, Cartoon Network bought syndication rights for their late-night programming block called Adult Swim. In 2005, Cartoon Network's contract expired and Comedy Central immediately jumped at the opportunity to earn syndication rights that started in 2008. Before Comedy Central was negotiating for the rights to it, they were in talks with FOX of making two or three straight-to-DVD movies. They ended up making 4. In 2009, it was announced that Comedy Central will air 26 brand new episodes of Futurama starting in 2010.

TONIGHT THEY SHOWED THE FIRST TWO EPISODES OF THE NEW SEASON. they were awesome. goodnight.

The Big Life of Kirstie Alley

Kristie Alley is a VERY interesting story. She was born on January 12th, 1951 (turned 59 this year), in Wichita, Kansas. She attended Kansas State University and then University of Kansas before dropping out in her sophomore year to pursue a career in acting. In 1982, she auditioned for a supporting role in Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan and later got the role. She did not return for the third movie due to salary issues. After that, she turned to what most of her career would be full of, a miniseries. The first miniseries was North and South, later she would also be in the second playing Virgilia Hazard. Then after a couple of movie and television appearances, she would take a role that would stabilize her career. That role was Rebecca Howe on the popular television series 'Cheers' in 1987. Soon she would be in the popular movie series: 'Look Who's Talking' in 1989, which raked in a big 100 million dollars at the box office. After being nominated for two Emmys for her role on Cheers she would finally understand why people say the third the is the charm when she won an Emmy the third time she was nominated in 1991. After Cheers wrapped up and Look Who's Talking franchise finally died, she did a huge bulk of miniseries. In 1995 she was honored with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame for her acting on the big and small screen.
Now it's time to discuss the reason I am writing this post about her. She is the perfect example of ridiculous. Kirstie is a pretty weird name. As the years passed she gained more and more weight. In 2005, he weight went over 200 pounds and she decided to do something about it. That something a show on Showtime called Fat Actress. Fat Actress was basically a mockumentary about the daily life of an overweight actress. Alley played herself in the show of course. Ever since, she has been an advocate for obesity. Once she began to lose weight the weight-loss program, Jenny Craig, wanted her as their spokesperson. Of course, Kristie accepted and it seemed like she was getting skinnier and skinnier every commercial. Since her battle with weight is a great story, Kristie was on Oprah praising how she lost 75 pounds! She walked right threw the middle of the stage in a beach-ish gown then showed off her body in a semi-bikini outfit. Oprah and the world was stunned. What's even more stunning? - she gained all the weight back plus a few more pounds. In March 2010 she decided to take another crack at this weight-loss thing. She launched 'Organic Liason', the first USDA approved organic weight loss product. Since then she has lost a reported 20 pounds. In the same month, A&E gave her a reality series. It is called Kristie Alley's Big Life, it presents her story of how she gained all that weight back and how she is living her 'big' life and her trying to normally raise her two teenage offsprings. So Kristie Alley is my first Silly Person of the Week Award.

Don't think she is silly enough to get my first silly person of the week award? Soak this up - she is a devoted scientologist. Mhmm. Like her new catchphrase for her show says, "Life. Lick It".

watching walk-off home runs....

As you should know I am a HUGE baseball fan. I eat, and breathe it. I watch Baseball Tonight any chance I get whenever it is on. Watching highlights of games lately I have noticed something very amusing. All the players that have hit walk off home runs to win games, walk into the crowd of teammates waiting to celebrate with them. Usually the player would LEAP into the crowd and start the party. Even since Kendry Morales of the Los Angeles Angels broke his ankle jumping on home plate back in May players have been celebrating less chaotically. I have been wondering if it is the players themselves deciding maybe it won't turn out well if they jump, or is it the front office telling the players to calm down while celebrating so they don't hurt themselves. Kendry Morales was the heart and soul of his team. At that point in the season he was leading the league in home runs, now he is home watching the games and waiting for next year to start. If you ask me I am pretty sure most baseball clubs sent out a notice to their teams to stop going crazy at the plate, but I am also pretty sure all players saw that happen and told themselves maybe it's ok to stop. If you are interested to see some walk-off home run celebrations less chaotic look below. Chris Young Walk Off Home Run

A Little Thing Most Call Summer

Well summer has officially arrived for me and it seems like this past school year went by so far I didn't even get to stop and enjoy it, but it wasn't like there was something to enjoy at the prestigious Storm King School. I try not to look back on it since it was so icky. Summer is here and I have nothing to do for the next 18 days or so until I go to Kansas City. In Kansas City I will be helping build houses with AJSS. AJSS is a Jewish society that helps Habitat for Humanity in many places like Kansas City and Little Rock. I have to admit I am kind of scared of going to the mid-west since they have lots of tornadoes there, but I am looking forward to witnessing one of the many cool events that happen in the world. I think I'll feel like a kid from Texas witnessing snow for the first time. EEEKKK. This trip will take up all of July and a few days in August. If you are Jewish and looking for a summer project like this I would contact them at AJSS.com
